Witness appeal following sexual assault

Police are appealing for witnesses following a suspected sexual assault incident that occurred in the Totton area yesterday morning.

The incident took place at around 11am on 16 July when a woman was reportedly approached by an unknown man at a bus shelter on Commercial Road. According to reports, the man attempted to engage the woman in conversation before following her onto a T3 or T4 bus.

While on the bus, the man is alleged to have leaned over and kissed the woman without her consent. He then reportedly approached her again after other passengers had left that area of the bus.

A 23 year old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault in connection with the incident. He has since been released under investigation, pending further police enquiries.

The police are now keen to hear from anyone who may have been on the bus travelling between 11am and 11.15am on 16 July from the Commercial Road area of Totton.
