Two stolen bikes recovered thanks to public tip-offs

In two separate incidents yesterday, 15 January, police operating in and around Millbrook were successful in recovering two motorbikes. Importantly, it’s worth noting that both successes came about following information provided by the public.

The first bike, a blue and white Yamaha, stolen from Wimpson Lane on Friday 13 January, was located after police attended an address in Barons Mead. On ‘swooping in’, police not only recovered the bike, but also caught up with a 19 year old male who they hope will help with their enquiries into the theft.

The owner of the Yamaha has collected the vehicle, and will now have to spend time and money rectifying damage caused to it.

The second recovery was of a grey Yamaha XVS950. This is a pretty distinctive looking bike and had been reported as stolen just the night before from Lockerley Crescent. This bike was found next to a block of flats in Wimpson Lane; not very well hidden the police added. Again though, the owner has been contacted, and enquiries will continue to try and find the culprit of the theft.

Whilst attending the first incident, police did witness a green and white scrambler type bike being ridden dangerously along Barons Meade and Romsey Road. However, the way in which it was being ridden deemed it too risky to detain. The rider of the scrambler was dressed in an all black tracksuit with a hood and face covering.

As said at the outset, reports from the public were very helpful in the success of police in both incidents yesterday. This story highlights the importance of that, and police would urge people to continue reporting any type of anti-social behaviour to them via 101.
