Travel improvements in Southampton could see an enhanced water taxi service

Southampton City Council has approved a three year implementation plan to improve the transport network around the city. There’s a longer term plan too going through to 2040, but one step at a time.

The plan itself has been put together with a view to helping people get around the city. That’ll come from a mix of improving what’s already in place together with introducing new ways of travel.

Some of the things being considered are continued investment in road maintenance and general infrastructure of the roads. This actually falls under the ‘Transforming Cities’ programme.

Other things included in the plan are the introduction of a booking app. The vision for this is that people will be able to use their mobiles to book travel, be that by bus, e-scooter  or train. People will also be encouraged to walk/cycle more with development into making that a more welcome prospect being looked at.

As with everything these days, finance and funding is key to any success. It’s hoped that there’ll be an allowance for a roll out of electric buses together with an enhanced water taxi service. We’re not quite sure we have a St Marks Square in Southampton, but all the same, it sounds very promising.
