Teens steal 70 year old’s bike

At around 2pm yesterday, 14 April, an electric bike was stolen. It was taken from outside Morrisons in Totton, and had been locked up at the front of the store near the trolley bay.

Further investigations into the theft confirm that two men were responsible. When we say men, we say that loosely, as they look to have been around 16-18.

The bike in question was a black electric free go with black panniers on the back. They contained a small amount of shopping, waterproofs and gloves.

Unfortunately, and somewhat upsetting is the fact that the owner of the bike is a 70 year old man. He was hard at work moving trolleys around so shoppers could go about their task at hand. Needless to say he and those who know him are very upset by the incident.

Both boys are described as being white with dark hair. One was around 5’10 and the other about 5’7. The shorter of the two appeared to be wearing a dark nike jacket. They used cutters to access the bike and made off along Michigan Way.

Any information on this incident would be gratefully received. If you were in the area, witnessed the incident and/or saw the two lads sometime after 2pm with the bike, please contact 101, or contact us directly.

Under the circumstances, not least given the gentleman would find it hard to use a standard bike, friends and neighbours have set up a gofund (https://gofund.me/b90f30df) to try and raise enough to buy a replacement, £1099. If you can help financially, that’d be amazing. Regrettably, his home insurance doesn’t cover the theft.
