Teenager sexually assaulted in park by man in yellow jacket

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a very disturbing incident in the early hours of this morning, 11 March.

At around 1:30am, a 19 year old female was walking through Hoglands Park in the City Centre. She was approached by a man unknown to her.

The man initially tried to engage in conversation with the teen, but went on to grab her and sexually assaulted her over her clothing. He then fled the scene on foot.

The man has been described as Asian or Arabic, around 5’6″ in height and of average build. He had short black hair and a moustache. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a distinctive patterned yellow jacket.

Via an online statement, Detective Inspector Joanne Beresford said;

“This incident was understandably very distressing for the young woman involved, and we know that this will also cause additional concern for the wider community who use these public spaces in the city.

“We are investigating this incident thoroughly, scoping CCTV footage from the area, and are closely supporting the victim.

“These enquiries will continue over the course of the weekend, and you can also expect to see uniformed officers out on patrol in this area, particularly late in the evening. If you have any concerns at all while you are out in the area, please do not hesitate to approach them.

“We have a distinctive description of the man who carried out this attack, and would encourage anyone who saw a man matching this description or perhaps had any interactions with him that night to please get in touch with police.”

Anyone with information is urged to make contact with the police immediately online or by calling 101. The reference number to quote is 44230097892.

Thoughts are with the young lady concerned, and we hope the culprit is caught and dealt with accordingly.
