Teenage boy robbed and assaulted in Southampton

The police are appealing for witnesses after a teenage boy was reportedly robbed and assaulted by two other young people on Saturday 25 March.

The incident took place between Bargate Southampton and Castle Way at around 12.25/12.45pm. The victim, who has not been named, was approached by two young people who demanded his bag, phone, and shoes. When he refused, he fled towards Westquay shopping centre, but the two individuals followed him onto Castle Way.

The victim reported being assaulted by one of the young people, causing minor facial injuries, and in the process, he dropped his mobile phone, which was picked up by the other perpetrator. It was only with the help of a member of the public that the victim was able to retrieve his belongings.

The two young people are described as being white, 14-15 years old, and approximately 5ft 5ins to 5ft 6ins tall, with a slim build. One was wearing a grey beanie, and the other had dark short hair and was seen wearing a black Nike coat (similar to a gilet).

Police are now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the robbery and assault, especially the member of the public who intervened, to come forward. The police believe that this individual’s account of the incident could be critical in identifying the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.

Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to call 101 and quote crime reference number 44230119002. Alternatively, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
