Support Local, Support Sholing FC

At SOnews, we really do encourage everyone to support local businesses and people.  One of the “businesses” we are priviliged to have in SO19, is the football club, Sholing FC, aka, The Boatmen. 

Sholing FC play at The Mackoy Stadium, Portsmouth Road, Sholing.

Formerly known as Vosper Thorneycroft FC, and later VTFC, the club changed its name in 2010 to Sholing FC.  

They decided to reflect the name of the area of Southampton nearest the ground and also adopted the Red & White stripes to continue with the City’s association.

In 2013–14 Sholing FC won both the FA Vase and the Wessex League Premier Division. They’ve also been three times runners up in the Wessex Premier, in 2007, 2009 and 2016. They are currently in the Southern League Division One South. The club has twice won the Hampshire League, in 2001 and 2004 and are also 8 times Southampton Senior Cup Winners.

With Sholing FC being the best club in Hampshire our side of the water, supporting them seems like a no brainer to me.  They’ve got their own website, www.sholingfc.co.uk where you will find their fixtures and write ups of their previous games as well as a host of additional club information. 

In terms of matchday experience, I’ve included the facilities and prices from their website below. Worth bearing in mind that any costs are subject to change, but are correct at the time of writing;

Bar: Open throughout the game. Alcohol permitted pitchside only in plastic glasses. No bottles or glass wear allowed outside of the clubhouse.

Turnstiles open an hour and a half before kick-off

Sorry, no pets allowed inside the ground, only Guide Dogs

Why not pop down to their next game, on the 1st January 2022, for a top of the table clash with AFC Totton.  They would very much appreciate your support and you’d be given a warm welcome, even in January ?.
