Street drinking under review

Anti-social behaviour is an issue many of us have been affected by. So, it may come as a relief that Southampton City Council are in talks about extending controls for on street drinking for a further three years, using Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs).

A PSPO, when in place, gives police officers the power to tackle street drinking. This includes the ability to seize and dispose of alcohol being consumed in public.

The consultation proposes that the current boundaries (listed below) are to be extended for a further 3 years;

  • Bitterne
  • City centre
  • Portswood
  • Shirley
  • Woolston

Southampton City Council has asked residents for their thoughts.  Please complete the questionnaire. to read more information on the proposals and to give them your views.  The survey will close on 18 February 2022.

We have seen many posts about ASB in Bitterne, with adults drinking and getting abusive. So,to see these proposals being extended is a welcome sight. Let us know in the comments if you feel this is a positive for you

  • I think more teenage anti social behaviour issues need to be addressed far more urgently than the odd drunken nuisance

  • Totally agree with Louise. The authorities are told, and see this happening and turn a blind eye. More than once I have heard of members of the public taking the law into their own hands. At some point it won’t have a happy ending.
