Southampton Man Jailed for Three Years for Child Exploitation and Other Offences

A 39 year old man from Southampton, Adam Dervan, has been sentenced to three years in prison for taking and possessing indecent images of children, voyeurism, and possession of cannabis. The sentencing took place at Southampton Crown Court on Tuesday, 07 November.

Dervan’s crimes date back to 2014 in Fawley, where some of the offences occurred when the victim was only eight and nine years old. The illicit activities came to light when SD cards containing indecent images were discovered hidden on top of a Venetian blind in a room where Dervan had previously resided.

Upon release, Dervan will be subject to a ten year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and is now a Registered Sex Offender for life. Police Constable Sarah Tickner, part of the Internet Child Abuse Team, expressed satisfaction with the sentence, emphasising the importance of justice for the victim.

The survivor’s courage and support played a crucial role in the investigation and subsequent prosecution of Dervan. PC Tickner urged other victims to come forward, assuring them that reporting such crimes would be taken seriously, and justice would be pursued.

In light of this case, the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary encourages survivors of sexual abuse to seek support, regardless of whether they choose to report the crime. Various types of assistance are available, and victims are urged to access the provided resources.
