Sholing hit and run leaves man with broken bones and fractured skull

A man in his 40s was injured earlier this week when he was out walking, and was struck by a passing vehicle.

The incident happened on Tuesday (7 February) at around 3:15pm – 3:20pm on Butts Road, Sholing, SO19. It was close to the junction with Imber Way.

The victim, a 47 year old local man, was walking along the pavement and came up to a section that was coned off because of works being carried out. He duly looked both ways before stepping into the road to walk around the cordon. During that time, a vehicle heading in the same direction came from behind him and clipped the man as it passed. The driver failed to stop, and the collision sent the poor man to the ground.

Since the incident, the victim has been released from hospital. However, his injuries are severe and include  broken bones, and a fractured skull.

After the incident, the victim’s wife, Clare, did take to social media in an attempt to try and gather evidence of the incident. She posted a plea for witnesses in the SO19 Community Group on facebook, in the knowledge that it has 17,000+ members. In turn, some CCTV from the area has been provided, but it would be great if more information could be uncovered, be that from eye witnesses, dashcam footage, or ring door bells.

Any information would be very gratefully received and should be passed to the police online or by calling 101. The incident number is 44230052251. If you’d prefer, you can contact us directly with any relevant information, and we will happily pass it on for you.

The video footage obtained so far includes vehicles in the area around the same time. See screenshots below:
