Scooter rider knocked down in hit and run

At around 8:30 this morning, 14 July, there was a collision between an e-scooter and a car. This happened at the roundabout linking The Avenue and Winchester Road.

A witness has reported that the driver of the car, a dark blue Skoda, failed to stop after knocking the young man off the scooter. Instead he/she decided to drive off, heading along The Avenue towards the M3.

The witness to the incident has also reported that the Skoda was being driven fairly erratically and at speed, with little or no care for those around. This is particularly concerning with there being schools very close to this roundabout, and with the timing of the incident being school drop off time.

The scooter rider appeared fine and was being assisted. So, the witness followed the Skoda along The Avenue. Regrettably, no images could be gathered, and only part of the registration plate could be obtained. This information has now been passed to the police.

If you were in the area at the time and have any information or footage, please pass it to the police via 101 or online. We hope the young lad on the scooter hasn’t suffered any injuries.
