Saints fans DON’T see Newcastle FC as rivals

As fans of Saints FC, we’re used to negative press from places like the BBC and Sky Sports.

As a news site, if we did clickbait titles, we’d deservedly get abuse from readers that click the link.  However, it seems that just because Sky Sports cover such a large area, they can get away with it.

Today they’ve written an article with the accompanying tweet “Ralph Hasenhuttl is unsure if Southampton will have enough players for Tuesday’s Premier League clash at home to Brentford.”

I’ve not seen Sky ask other managers these questions, then manipulate the response, to generate  clicks due to a supposed rivalry between Southampton and Newcastle.  Or more to the point Ralph and Newcastle.

Whilst saints fans will have enjoyed the Newcastle defeat to Cambridge yesterday, most would agree that Newcastle are not our rivals.

This article will stir the pot once again. It’ll generate tweets from both Newcastle and Saints, attacking each other, due to one fan base reading the article, and the other using the headline to throw mud at the other.

These incidents with Ralph and the club making their feelings clear about the postponements isn’t an attack on Newcastle, not that their fans will believe that.  It’s more of the club highlighting the fact that Southampton had to play a number of youth players against Manchester United, in the game with the score line we won’t mention (as it gets mentioned enough, I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets mentioned in the Conference play off final in 2027).

Ralph has never mentioned Newcastle; the news outlets have focused on them, perhaps due to the attention that has come to the club after the takeover.

Twitter isn’t always the most pleasant of places, but seeing Saints and Newcastle fans interact is mind boggling, seeing as one of the clubs is mid table and in the FA Cup, with the other fighting relegation after 1 win all season and out of all cups.

Let’s hope this is the last of seeing them on the Saints timelines.  #COYR
