Police appeal for witnesses following hit and run

Police are appealing for witnesses and further information, following a hit and run this morning, 18 July. This happened on Northam Road, near the junction with Lumpy Lane.

Just after 4am, they were called to an incident, following reports that a man in his 40s had been struck by a silver Volkswagon. The driver of the VW failed to stop, and the man was left with injuries to his face, and more serious injuries to his leg. The man was transferred to hospital for treatment.

Whilst investigating, police entered an address on Northam Road, wherein they found a large quantity of cannabis plants. The plants will be seized, and the property cleared of any cannabis set up/infrastructure.

Since the incident, a 40 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to burgle. Investigations will continue, but Police are keen to hear from anyone with any information. Via a statement, DS Nicola Rose said;

“We know this incident will be of concern to the community and has impacted the local road network this morning.

“This was a serious collision which could have a life-changing impact on the injured man, and we need anyone who may have seen what happened to come forward.

“There were several vehicles at the scene when the incident took place, including a moped and taxis.

“We believe the drivers could have invaluable information that could aid our investigation, and urge them to contact us.

“If you saw anything suspicious in Lumpy Lane or Northam Road at the time, or have any relevant dash cam, ring doorbell or CCTV footage, we would also like to hear from you.”
