Police appeal for witnesses following attempted knife point robbery
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following an incident on Thursday evening, 11 August.
At around 8:40pm to 8:55pm, a 38 year old male was walking along Portsmouth Road from Woolston, in the direction of Hamble Lane. As he passed by the Vauxhall and Renault car sales garages, he was approached by an unknown man.
The man pulled a knife from his bag and demanded that the 38 year old hand over his property. The victim attempted to flee the area, but in doing so, he had a fall and fractured his ankle.
A passerby went to the aid of the victim, whilst the offender ran off empty handed. He went in the same direction the man was initially heading.
The offender has been described as white, around 6’2 in height, with short brown hair and a light coloured beard. He was wearing a full grey Nike tracksuit, grey Nike t-shirt and had a Nike bag/satchel too.
Police Staff Investigator Ryan Mitchell, said;
“There was a lot of traffic along Portsmouth Road at the time of the incident and it is likely a number of people witnessed what happened. Were you in the area at the time? Were you driving along Portsmouth Road, and do you have a dash cam in your vehicle?
“If you have any information regarding this incident, please call us as soon as possible.”
Any information should be passed to the police online, or by calling 101 and quoting 44220325603.
