Man Sentenced to 15 Months in Prison for Burglary at Hedge End Residence

A man from Kidlington has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for a burglary that took place in Hedge End last year. 

Michael Patrick Cawley, aged 26 and residing in Manor Park, Hampton Poyle, appeared before Southampton Crown Court on 16 March, where he received his sentence.

The burglary took place between 9pm on 26 January, and 7:45am on 27 January, 2022, at an address on St Catherines View. The victim, a man in his 90s, discovered that the door chain had been locked from the inside, preventing him from entering his home. 

The police were called to the scene and found that a quantity of jewellery had been stolen from the property.

The discovery of DNA evidence on the outside of a window at the back of the house, which was positively matched to Cawley. In addition, cell site analysis of his mobile phone placed him in Hedge End on the day of the burglary. 

These findings led to Cawley’s guilty plea at Southampton Magistrates Court on 3 February 2023.

The sentencing of Cawley serves as an example of how seriously the legal system takes crimes such as burglary. It also emphasises the importance of holding those responsible accountable for their actions, especially in cases where vulnerable individuals are affected. 

The victim, who was a man in his 90s, was undoubtedly shaken by the burglary, and it is crucial that justice was served to bring closure to the incident.
