Man jailed after assaulting his ex partner

A 27 year old Southampton man was jailed this week. His sentence of 2.5 years was as a result of assaulting his ex-partner.

In court, Benjamin Evetts pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and criminal damage to property valued under £5000.

On 15 June, Evetts turned up at the victim’s flat. After opening the door, he pushed her to the floor and kneeled over her. He then put his thumb to her windpipe, which caused her to struggle breathing. In order to prevent her being able to call for help, he snatched her phone out of her hand.

He left the property for what was less than an hour, but on his return he gained entry to the property and caused extensive damage.

Once again, he again grabbed her by the throat and pushed her to the floor. He then proceeded to hold her hair and bang her head into the wall while spitting at her.

After receiving a call from from concerned neighbour, police attended the scene and arrested Evetts.

Via a social media statement, PC Romany Cushing, who led the case, said;

“Evetts’ actions and behaviour was appalling.

“We do not tolerate any forms of domestic abuse or assault and will relentlessly pursue perpetrators to ensure they face justice.

“I hope this result encourages any victims of domestic abuse to come forward and reassures you that we will take your allegations seriously.”
