Man given prison sentence for Burglary

Another great result for Hampshire Constabulary. On Friday Ian Masters, 33, was sentenced to two years in prison for two counts of burglary and fraud by false representation.

On November 13th last year, Masters broke into a property in Church Lane, SO17, through a bathroom window that he had prised open, whilst the owners were out of the house.

He also smashed an internal kitchen door with a brick and bizarrely smeared cheese on the kitchen surfaces.  He left the property stealing bank letters, a laptop and a Nintendo Switch, all of which were never recovered.

The police managed to pull a fingerprint from the bathroom window, which was a match for Masters.

On 16th December, a house in Brook Way, Romsey was broken into while the occupants were out.  Masters smashed a glass panel in the kitchen door with a rock whilst the occupants were out.

This time the items stolen included a credit card, two debit cards, £75 in cash (£45 in Islandic currency) two mobile phones and three gold rings, one of which was a wedding ring.  Once again none of the items were recovered.

The same day the owner received a text from his bank to advise his card was used 6 times, for items totalling £135.80 along with one failed transaction of £21.

Once again, the police were able to match DNA from Masters, with the rock used and CCTV showed a man matching his description using the credit card.

Having been arrested on 23rd December and given bail whilst forensics did their part, he was further arrested on 18th January and remanded in HMP Lewes.

Masters pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and fraud by fraud by false representation, with the evidence that was collated by the police, it was a great result.
