Man acting suspiciously outside schools in Hamble

Police have been notified of two separate incidents of an adult male approaching students, outside of schools.

On one of the occasions, the man is suspected of filming the students. As you can imagine, this is being taken very seriously by the police, who are investigating further.

With the descriptions provided by the students on each occasion, it is believed that it is the same man. The man has been described in his 60s, short with white hair.

The two schools that have reported the above are The Hamble School and Netley Abbey Junior School.  Those with children at The Hamble School were today sent a letter outlining the situation.

Within the letter from the Headteacher, the importance of speaking to children about such incidents is emphasised. The letter also went on to stress the importance of not engaging with strangers in any situation, and to avoid approaching unknown vehicles.

If anything happens at any point, children need to know that they can speak up. They should inform the school, or call 101. But, if they’re in immediate danger, then 999 should always be the first call.

There are a lot of schools in close proximity of each other on this side of the water, and we know that many children travel between postcodes from home to school. Without causing distress, please be extra vigilant. Always worth making sure that children are in groups when they travel too and from school too.
