Itchen Bridge to close for repairs

Southampton City Council has confirmed that works are needed to repair expansion joints on Itchen Bridge. This will require the bridge to be closed to traffic.
The planned work (and bridge closure) is scheduled to take place from around 8pm on Thursday 7 April. It’s anticipated that the work will be completed through the night, and SCC are hopeful that the bridge will be usable again by 6am on Friday 8 April.
The work is necessary, but it’s been planned for off peak times when traffic in and out of the city is lighter. Therefore, whilst diversions will be in place, it shouldn’t impact too greatly.
As always with these things, dates are subject to change, but signage will be up for all to see.
To confirm, pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to use the bridge during the closure.
