Firefighters battle barn blaze in Blackfield

Firefighters from several stations responded to a call early this morning (17 March) to tackle a fire that broke out in a barn in Gatewood Hill, Blackfield, Southampton. The fire, which had engulfed the approximately 15 by 15-metre structure, was reportedly full of hay, which made the situation more challenging for the firefighters.

The Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the incident and immediately dispatched crews from Hardley, Beaulieu, Hythe, Redbridge, St Mary’s, and Totton to the scene. Six fire engines and two water carriers were used to try and extinguish the flames, which had fully consumed the barn. A relief crew is now on the scene to prevent the fire from spreading to other areas.

Due to the uncertain cause of the blaze, the police were informed and are investigating the incident. It is not clear at this stage what led to the fire, and the authorities are working to determine the cause.

The Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service advised residents in the area to keep their windows and doors closed due to the smoke, which was billowing from the scene. They also urged motorists to avoid the area to allow emergency services to access the location and deal with the fire effectively.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries in the incident, and the emergency services are continuing to monitor the situation.
