Electrical Fault Sparks Early Morning Blaze at Southampton Pub

In the early hours of this morning, Thursday, 05 October, the Platform Tavern, a pub located at Town Quay fell victim to a destructive fire believed to have been ignited by an electrical fault. The swift response of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) proved instrumental in preventing further damage and potential injuries.

The alarm was raised shortly after 3amwhen crews from St Mary’s, Redbridge, and Hightown received the alert. Upon their arrival at the scene, firefighters were met with a harrowing sight: smoke and flames billowing from the building.

The firefighters equipped themselves with breathing apparatus sets, poised to combat the blaze. Using hose reel jets, they battled the flames, bringing them under control.

As safety remained a top priority, HIWFRS deployed ventilation fans to clear the premises of smoke, ensuring the safety of all concerned. After diligent efforts, the incident was handed back to the pub’s landlord, signaling the end of this ordeal.

The dedicated crews, comprising firefighters from various stations, finally left the scene and returned to their respective stations at approximately half past four in the morning, following the “stop message.”

While the precise extent of damage is yet to be fully assessed, the timely response and expertise demonstrated by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service undoubtedly played a pivotal role in limiting the fire’s spread. Investigations into the exact cause of the electrical fault will be crucial to prevent such incidents in the future.

This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the invaluable service provided by our emergency responders, who stand ready to safeguard lives and property during times of crisis.
