Elderly woman injured in Romsey robbery: Police appeal for witnesses

Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly woman was injured in a robbery in Romsey. The police were called just after 10pm, 16 March, after an incident occurred on Winchester Road.

The victim, a woman in her 90s, was travelling eastbound on Winchester Road with a friend when two unknown people approached them and snatched the victim’s handbag from her lap. The force of the attack caused the elderly woman to fall into the road, resulting in injuries to her head, face, arm, and hand. Though her injuries are not life-threatening, she was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The suspects, described as being around 5ft 5ins tall with a slim build, fled the scene in the direction of Botley Road. One of the suspects was wearing dark clothing while the other was wearing light clothing with a hood up. The stolen handbag is burgundy in colour.

This incident has caused concern in the local community, with many expressing their shock and outrage at the attack on an elderly woman.

The police have launched an investigation and are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects. They are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, including anyone who may have dashcam or doorbell footage, or who may have seen two people matching the suspects’ description in the area at the time of the robbery.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the suspects before or after the incident, or anyone who may have any information that could help us with our enquiries.”
