Council tax rebate – its on its way! 🥳

Many people have been waiting for word about the financial support that was promised by the Government in light of rising living costs. Southampton City Council has this week provided an update.

There were two main things announced by Rishi Sunak. The first was a payment of £150 being paid to those in properties banded A-D (with further exceptions). This payment is not one that needs to be repaid. The other, which we don’t yet know the finer detail of relates to a £200 credit being made against all gas/electric bills later in the year; to then be repaid over a few years.

In respect of the £150, SCC has announced that payments will be made from today , 27 April, for those people who pay their bill via direct debit. Keep in mind that it can take a few days to hit and clear bank accounts. For those that don’t pay by DD, letters will be issued, which upon receipt will allow those entitled to claim the money in cash.

As you can imagine, in some cases, it’s not as simple as it sounds. So, we’ve included a link at the bottom of this article to the information issued by SCC.

We’re glad to be the bearers of this news; it seems an age since the announcement was first made and we know it’ll be very welcome indeed to many.
