Applications open for King Charles Coronation Street Party’s

Many will already know that May 2023 will feature an additional bank holiday. Monday 1 May and Monday 29 May will have been known as being Bank Holidays for some time, but the additional one is on Monday 8 May, and this is to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.

The Coronation itself will take place on Saturday 6 May, but celebrations across the country will be held on Sunday 7 May, and in fairness the whole weekend.

Southampton City Council has now opened up applications for street parties to be held. What this means is that residents in streets across the city can apply for permission to have their road closed in order for a party to be hosted.

If your street is on a bus route, then an application won’t be possible, and other restrictions will be in place too. Dependent on what activities each street lays on will determine whether there is a need for public liability insurance to be taken out. In some cases, the Council will help towards the cost of this, up to a contribution of £125, but further information is available in the application information.

It’s also worth noting that all residents in a particular street will need to have been consulted in writing prior to an application being submitted.
