Appeal after 60 year old woman assaulted by man

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a 60 year old female was assaulted by a male on Saturday morning, 7 January.

The incident happened on Passfield Avenue, Eastleigh, at around 9:45am. The victim was walking her dog when she was approached by the man, who then punched her.

Thankfully, the lady wasn’t seriously injured. Nonetheless, we’re sure the attack will have left her shaken. After the assault, the man left the scene in the direction of the town centre.

The man has been described as white, 30-40 years old, around 6ft in height with long grey hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing black and grey trousers and black trainers. He also had what looked to be a grey blanket around his shoulders.

A 43 year old Southampton man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He has since been released from custody, but remains under investigation.

Police are now keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of Passfield Avenue or Fleming Park at the time who may have witnessed anything, or from anyone who may have access to dashcam or doorbell footage. Two passers by did come to the aid of the victim after the incident so if you were one of these people, please make contact with the police.
