Teen arrested after college lockdown incident

Police have arrested a 17 year old boy on suspicion of affray and causing a disturbance on educational premises following an incident at Barton Peveril College on Thursday, ( 9 March). The suspect remains in custody while investigations are ongoing.

Police were alerted to the incident at approximately 2:20pm on Thursday after receiving reports of a person with a knife on the college grounds. Staff at the college took quick action to ensure the safety of students, while armed and unarmed police were deployed to the scene.

Despite searches, no knife was found on the premises, and it was later confirmed that the injuries sustained by three students were not related to a knife. Police believe that a group of five or six youths were responsible for the assault on the students and had been seen in Grantham Park shortly before the incident at the college.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to come forward and contact the police either through their website or by calling 101 and quoting reference number 44230095510.

Following the incident, Chief Inspector Will Rollinson, District Commander for Eastleigh, expressed his gratitude to the staff at the college for their quick response, saying, “This incident is an absolute priority for us. We are working hard to identify those involved and ensure students are safe. We will not tolerate violence or weapons in our community – especially within our educational settings.”

Our thoughts are with those affected by this incident, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
