Over 100 Firefighters Tackle Thatched Roof Fire at Hampshire Home

Over 100 firefighters, officers, and support staff spent the night tackling a thatched roof fire at a home near Romsey, Hampshire. The incident was reported shortly before 10pm on 3 March, and Fire Control quickly mobilised multiple crews to the scene in West Wellow Road, West Wellow.

Upon arriving at the scene, the firefighters found the thatched roof of the house well alight. Fortunately, everyone had been evacuated from the property before they arrived. A total of 16 fire engines and two water carriers were deployed, along with support vehicles, including the environmental protection unit. The firefighters worked hard throughout the night to prevent the blaze from spreading.

Area Manager Jason Avery praised the efforts of everyone involved, saying, “All crews, officers and our Control team worked tremendously hard throughout the incident. I am very proud of them.”

The fire was brought under control by 5am on 4 March. However, the house suffered significant damage in the blaze. Fire investigators are expected to return to the scene later today to establish the cause of the fire.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the incident. One fire engine remains on the scene to monitor and dampen down any remaining hotspots.
