Murder investigation – woman released without charge

Police in Southampton are appealing for witnesses and information following the murder of a man in his 60s. The incident took place on Saturday, (25 February) at around 1:08am in Warburton Road, Thornhill.

Upon arrival, officers found the man with serious injuries and he was later pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

A post-mortem examination revealed that the man had died as a result of a single stab wound to the chest.

A 20 year old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder, but following further investigations, she has been released without charge.

A scene remains in place on Warburton Road while detectives continue their investigation. The police are urging anyone who was in the area between 9pm on Friday, (24 February), and 2am on Saturday, (25 February), to come forward if they have any information that could assist with the investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Dal Andrews has stated that the police are conducting extensive inquiries to establish what happened and are requesting the help of the local community. He has asked that anyone with CCTV footage or dash cam footage from the area contact the police.
