Southampton police have launched a murder investigation after a man in his 60’s was found with serious injuries inside a flat in the Thornhill area of the city. The man was discovered at around 1.08am on Saturday, (25 February), and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 20 year old woman from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody. The victim’s next of kin have been informed of his death.

Detective Chief Inspector Dal Andrews, who is leading the investigation, urged anyone with information to come forward. He said: “We are working hard to establish the exact circumstances of what took place. We are keen to hear from anyone who has any information about what took place in the early hours of the morning.”

He added: “Perhaps you were driving in the local area and noticed something unusual and have dash-cam footage that could help us?”

The police are appealing to anyone who may have been in the Warburton Road area of Southampton around the time of the incident and may have seen or heard anything suspicious to come forward. The investigation is ongoing.

Residents in the area have expressed concern and shock at the incident. One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “It’s scary to think that something like this could happen so close to home. My thoughts are with the victim’s family.”
