Southampton man arrested for vehicle theft following police pursuit

A man has been arrested for multiple offences, including vehicle theft, following a police pursuit in Southampton on Sunday, (12 February).

According to reports, just after midday, officers attempted to stop a Vauxhall Insignia car on Bursledon Road, as it was believed to have been stolen from an address in North Baddesley last December. The driver, however, failed to stop, and officers pursued the suspect.

The pursuit came to a dramatic end as the driver collided with another vehicle and a traffic light in Hedge End. A passenger in the other vehicle was taken to Southampton General Hospital as a precaution. Following the collision, the driver left the car and fled the scene on foot.

The police were able to apprehend the driver shortly afterwards in Hobb Lane. The 20 year old Southampton man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, attempted theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, and failing to stop for police.

The individual has been released on bail with conditions while investigations continue. The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with their enquiries.

Thankfully, no one was seriously hurt during the pursuit and collision.
