Teacher jailed for child sex offences

Following the conclusion of a case at Southampton Crown Court last week, a 33 year old man was jailed. This was in respect of child sex offences.

Former teacher, Calum Lacey of Station Road had previously pleaded guilty to the following;

Intentionally causing or inciting a girl under 16 to engage in sexual activity. This relates to online conversations with a teenage girl between March and July 2020.

Intentionally communicating with and encouraging a person under 16 to send sexual messages. This involved a different girl, and the messages were sent between October 2020 and March 2021.

Lacey was arrested in March 2021 and later charged in November last year. The teenage girls involved have since been receiving support from specialist officers.

Lacey was sentenced to two years in prison. He also had placed on him a five year conditional Sexual Harm Prevention Order. This means that if he breaks the conditions, he will be committing a further offence. He’ll also be on the Sex Offenders Register for ten years.

Via a statement made available online, Acting DS Heather Tack from the Child Abuse Investigation Team said;

“Lacey was in a privileged position of trust as a teacher in the Alton area, yet he encouraged teenage girls to send him sexual messages online.

“These two girls have been so brave throughout the investigation and court process and now Lacey is behind bars, hopefully they can get some form of closure.

“We take all forms of child abuse incredibly seriously and I hope this result shows the effort the Child Abuse Investigation Team puts into making sure children in our community are safe from sexual predators.”
