Jailed – baseball bat attack

A 27 year old male has been jailed for 32 months, following a serious assault outside a Southampton Pub.

Lewis Kerby, of Stride Gardens, Bursledon, was sentenced on 22 November, after pleading guilty on 25 October to GBH with intent, and possession of an offensive weapon.

The incident took place outside the Robin Hood pub, on South East Road, SO19. On 19 August just after midnight an argument began in the pub, carrying on outside in the street.

The victim, a man in his 30s was attempting to help his brother when Kerby hit him over the head with a baseball bat.

The victim suffered an open skull fracture, which required surgery and has left him with a large scar on his scalp and a metal place in his head.

DC Hayley Channell from Western Investigations led the investigation. She said: “This was a serious incident witnessed by many people where the victim was brutally assaulted.

“One of our priorities in Southampton is keeping people safe in and around our pubs, bars and clubs and our licencing team works very closely with doorstaff, venues and other partners including the city council to prevent incidents like this from happening.

“When they do, offenders can expect a swift response and to be brought to justice such as in this case.”
