Burglary suspect found in bush after flipping van

Police in Hedge End were called into action yesterday evening, and have since made an arrest.

At around 10:20pm, a member of the public witnessed a burglary taking place on Shamblehurst Lane South, and contacted the police. 

It was said, and was caught on CCTV, that a White Transit van had pulled up to an industrial unit. The driver then proceeded to load a number of items from the unit into the back of the van before driving off.

Police attended, and soon after, the van was found on its side a short distance away in Drummond Road. A search was carried out to find those responsible, and with the help of another member of the public, a man was found to be hiding in a nearby bush.

The 42 year old Southampton man remains in custody but has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and dangerous driving.
