Police looking for teens after mother and daughter racially abused

Police are appealing for information following an incident in Hythe on 2 August 2022.

At around 5:50pm a mother and her 11 year old daughter were walking through Ewart Recreational Ground, where they were planning to play football, when a group of teenage boys and girls began pointing and laughing at them.  

The mum decided to leave with her daughter and headed to Hythe.  The group followed the mother and daughter into town and started shouting racist abuse at them.  This took place in a number of shops.

The main offender is described as follows:

Teenage girl, approximately 14 years old, of average build with long dark hair.  She was wearing black shorts and a black hoody with white slip on shoes.

She was accompanied by two other girls, aged between 13-16 and both with long dark hair.  One was of skinny build, wearing a red dress and black Nike trainers.  The other was wearing a grey hoody and black trousers.

There were also five teenage boys, described as white and aged between 13-16. 

One was wearing a black jumper and shorts and had short blonde hair.  The second one was wearing a white T-shirt, a grey jumper draped around his shoulders and grey tracksuit bottoms.  The third one was also wearing a white T-shirt, carrying a black backpack.  The fourth was of stocky build, dark hair and was wearing black Adidas tracksuit bottoms and a T-shirt.  The final boy had brown hair and was wearing a tan hoody, black trousers and trainers.  

PC Rich Diggins, said: “This was a distressing incident for the victims and I am keen to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident who may have witnessed what happened.

“If you have any information about this incident or who you think may be involved, please contact us as soon as possible.”
