RIP young man; tributes paid following passing of 14 year old

We published a story earlier this week about a collision that took place on Hill Lane, at the junction with Warwick Road. Police have now provided further information.

You’ll recall that at not long after 5pm on Monday, 18 July, police were called to the collision between a car and a motorbike. Three 16 year olds were arrested, and a younger lad, just 14 years old, suffered serious injuries and was transferred to hospital.

Sadly, it’s been confirmed that the 14 year old died whilst at hospital. He’s been named as Layton Cashmore, and via a police statement, tributes have been paid to him. The tribute reads;

“As a family we cannot put into words how much this hurts.

“Layton truly is one of a kind, with the biggest heart; he left a mark on anyone who had the privilege to meet him.

“As a family we will never be the same.”

PS Jon Bates from the Roads Policing Unit is leading the investigation. He said;

“Firstly, I would like to express my condolences to Layton’s family.

“We continue to investigate the circumstances of what happened, and urge anyone who saw the collision or who may have dash cam, CCTV or ring doorbell footage of the incident to contact us.

“If you know who was involved in the collision, or saw a moped at the scene and know who was riding it or who was a passenger, please also get in touch.”

Our thoughts of course go out to Layton’s family at what is unquestionably a very challenging time. Our thoughts too go to all those who knew him.

If you have any information that could help police with their investigations, please getting in contact with them, quoting 44220288681.
