Medals among valuable items taken during burglary

Police are asking the public for help to identify the man pictured, as it’s thought he may be able to assist with enquiries following a burglary.

Between 6am and 6:30am on Sunday morning (17 July), entry was gained to a property on Dover Street. Access was gained via the back garden, so it’s likely the person or persons responsible would have been in Bath Street too.

A number of items were taken from the property including two cameras with a combined value of almost £1,000. One was a Lumix TZ100 and the other was a Panasonic DMC.

The victim also had medals stolen that belonged to his great-grandfather. The medals are pictured and would have been presented pre 1900. Naturally, they’re of great sentimental value, so please contact the police should you come across any information that may help the owner be reunited with his possessions.

Debit and credit cards were also among the items taken during this break in. Further, the cards were used in the Esso Garage at the end of Lodge Road.

Via a statement published on social media, PC Sparks said;

“These medals are priceless to their owner and we are hoping you can help us reunite him with an important piece of his family history.

“His great-grandfather was a founding member of county bowls in Hampshire, and won the medals between 1890 and 1898 – so these precious heirlooms are irreplaceable.

“We are also releasing a CCTV image of a man we would like to speak to in connection with this incident. If you are in the image, or know who he is, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information which could assist should call 101, quoting 44220286558. Alternatively, information can be provided to the police online.
