Man released day after being arrested on suspicion of murder

Police have provided an update into the death of a man yesterday morning (29 June), following an incident in Cranbury Terrace.

Having attended the area shortly before 4am, following a report of a disturbance outside a property there, a 30 year old male was found with serious injuries.

The man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Initially, the police arrested a 38 year old male from Southampton on suspicion of murder. He was later arrested for assault by beating of an emergency worker in relation to an incident that happened whilst in custody.

After questioning the man, and carrying out enquiries at the scene, the police now believe the 30 year old man died due to an injury sustained at the scene, that did not involve any third party.

They’ve now released the 38 year old male from custody, with no further action to be taken against him.  However, he has received a conditional caution for the assault on an emergency worker.
