Fire crews attend to unattended pan fire in block of flats

Fire crews had to attend a block of flats in Windermere Avenue shortly after 1pm today. Crews from Hightown, St Mary’s, Eastleigh and Redbridge all attended the scene.

It had been reported that smoke was coming from one of the flats; an alarm was also going off.

On arrival, and after investigation, it was confirmed that the cause was someone having left a frying pan on, and unattended. A ventilation fan was used to clear the smoke from the property.

The all clear was given shortly after 1:30pm. As is fairly standard these days, the firefighters offered safety advice in the community before leaving the area.

A story like this certainly reinforces the importance of taking extra care.
