Man discarded knife in a garden

After trying to evade police officers on Friday last week (6 May), an Eastleigh man was arrested. This follows their finding of a discarded knife in a garden on Archers Road late morning.

Andrew Henbest, 36, of Desborough Road was arrested at the time. He was later charged with possession of a bladed article in a public place.

Henbest appeared at the Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where he pleaded guilty to the offence. His next court appearance for sentencing will be on Wednesday 8 June.

It’s worth noting that this action came about as a result of what was intended to be just a routine stop and search. Police are often criticised for  not being visible, but this time, they had some success.

Only today did the police covering Central Southampton post on social media about other routine patrols. They confirmed that they’d come across two people of interest to them and arrests were subsequently made; both were taken into custody.

We may not have the number of officers on the street that we once had and we all live in hope that this will change in time. However, let’s keep trying to focus on the positives.
