Youths use catapult to smash street lamps

A witness reported that they’d seen four youngsters (3 girls and 1 boy) using a catapult to smash the bulbs on lamp posts yesterday.  They were around 14/15 years old, and it happened at the cemetery end of Butts Road in Sholing.

As you can imagine, this behaviour will have had a big impact to those who live local. There was smashed glass on the pavement and road, not to mention the resulting lack of light in the evenings.

Thankfully local residents swept the glass up. Additionally, police attended within minutes of being notified.

Due to their speedy response it’s believed that those responsible were identified. However, we’re unable to provide any further details at this time.

In recent months, kids using catapults irresponsibly has been reported a few times. Let’s hope this serves as a reminder that in the wrong hands, they are not toys.
