WATCH: Mother led police on 90mph chase with two children in the back

A 29 year old Southampton woman appeared in court on Wednesday, 13 April. This was in respect of a driving offence that took place in January 2021.

Tegan Bulley of St James Close was caught passing an unmarked police car at speed, and a pursuit continued through Totton. At one point, she was clocked to have been  doing 90MPH, and at times 70MPH in a 30 zone. She was travelling at reckless speeds through residential areas.

As if the speeding, illegal overtaking and driving on the wrong side of the road wasn’t enough, Bulley also had two children (5 and 8) in the car with no child seats in place.

At Southampton Magistrates Court yesterday, Bulley pleaded guilty to dangerous driving. She was handed an eight-month sentence, suspended for 15 months and was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

In addition, she was ordered to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work and 20 days with the probation service. She was also ordered to pay a fine of £120.

PC Theo McNulty of the Roads Policing Unit, said;

“The standard of driving exhibited by Bulley falls far below what is expected of a careful and competent driver.

This is aggravated by the fact that she had her two young children, aged five and eight, in the car at the time of the offence with no child seats in the vehicle to restrain them.

The undue care shown is beyond belief. She not only put herself and her children at considerable risk, but the officers involved in the pursuit and other roads users at risk too. Thankfully her actions did not result in a road traffic collision as I have no doubt that someone could have been seriously injured, or worse, fatally wounded.

We hope that this serves as a reminder to the dangers of driving at excess speeds and that we will always do what we can to bring those responsible to justice and place them in front of the courts.”
