20 is plenty – 14 areas to become 20mph zones

Southampton 20mph speed limit Programme.

Southampton City Council have announced a full 20mph speed limit in 14 areas across Southampton.  The first area that will be consulted in detail about the changes will be the east of Bassett, which includes the flower estate.  This consultation will start on the 18th February and run until the 11th March.   Feedback will be collected from residents on the reduced speed limit and additional traffic calming methods.

Other areas set to be consulted include the west of Bassett, Bitterne Park, Highfield and Portswood area, Townhill Park, Shirley and Freemantle area, Polygon and Banister Park, Woolston and Itchen, the north of Peartree, the south of St Denys, Holybook, Sholing, and the city centre.

The above areas will be consulted over the next 2 years, through to the end of 2023.  For further information, please visit Southampton.gov.ukwhere you will find the areas covered and links to the consultations when they go live.

What do you think? Is 20 plenty? Are there specific roads where you think it should apply?
